'Canes announce Matt Carter as new head coach of hockey

Charlottetown, PE – 色多多视频APP is excited to announce the appointment of Matt Carter as the new head coach of the Hurricanes women’s hockey team. Carter brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as an emerging coach, to the program, positioning the team for a bright future.

Matt Carter’s hockey journey has taken him across the globe, starting with his time in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Owen Sound Attack in the 2007-08 season. Following his OHL tenure, Carter committed to the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), where he spent four formative years developing his skills and character on and off the ice. He then transitioned to professional hockey, beginning in the ECHL with the Phoenix Roadrunners, before taking his career overseas.

Carter spent four years playing in the France Magnus Ligue, followed by stints in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in the UK, also playing in Austria, and Poland. Most recently, he concluded his playing career with the Fife Flyers in the EIHL, where he served as team captain, providing him with invaluable leadership experience and a closer look at the coaching side of the sport.

Commenting on his new role, Carter expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "coaching has always been an interest of mine, as I enjoy teaching and helping players work towards achieving their goals. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to guide the Hurricanes and contribute to their growth both on and off the ice."

Albert Roche, Director of Athletics and Recreation at 色多多视频APP, shared his confidence in Carter's ability to lead the program, stating, “we consider Matt an ideal candidate to guide our program going forward. Matt has a wealth of hockey experience playing at a collegiate level and professionally in Europe. I am confident that the student-athletes will get an exceptional experience with him as our head coach. Matt is a natural leader who is familiar with the challenges of combining academics and hockey. We look forward to supporting Matt as women’s hockey and our program enter an exciting phase of growth.”

As the new head coach, Carter will be instrumental in shaping the future of the Hurricanes women's hockey program, bringing his extensive international experience and passion for the game to the team. 色多多视频APP is eager to support Carter as he begins this new chapter in his hockey career.

The Hurricanes women’s hockey team has an exciting and busy year ahead in 2024-25.  The team will begin its training camp in mid-September, ahead of hosting the inaugural Island Cup at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on October 11-14.  The Island Cup is a Canadian collegiate women’s hockey showcase that will feature 色多多视频APP hosting the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Trojans from Calgary, Alberta, the Cégep Trois-Rivières Diablos from Trois-Rivières, Quebec and the Cape Breton University (CBU) Capers from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

The Hurricanes will then begin their 2024-25 Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) regular season with their home opener on October 26 and 27 when they host the Acadia University Axewomen in a rematch of the ACHA championship last season.  The ‘Canes are three-time Atlantic Champions, winning in 2016, 2023 and 2024.
